College Entrepreneurs to Battle for Thousands in Cash Prizes

Wednesday, April 8, 2026

Muskegon Community College is inviting students with entrepreneurial ambitions to step into the spotlight with its upcoming Pitch Competition, offering a chance to turn innovative ideas into real-world opportunities—and cash prizes totaling $8,000.

Open to MCC students ages 18 and older, the competition encourages participants to present original business concepts, products, or services. The event will culminate in a live, high-energy showcase on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 6 p.m. in Room 1300 on the college’s main campus.

Modeled in part after the popular TV show Shark Tank, the competition will give selected finalists the opportunity to pitch their ideas in front of a live audience of peers, community leaders, and business professionals—creating a real-world entrepreneurial experience with meaningful stakes.

“We want our students to think boldly and act confidently when it comes to innovation,” said MCC President John Selmon. “This competition isn’t just about winning prize money—it’s about learning how to communicate ideas, take risks, and respond to real feedback. Experiences like this help shape the kind of leaders and problem-solvers our communities need moving forward.”

The top three competitors will receive cash awards, including $5,000 for first place, $2,000 for second, and $1,000 for third.

Organizers say the event is designed not only to reward creativity but also to connect students with valuable feedback and networking opportunities that can help bring their ideas to life beyond the classroom.
