Course Placement is designed to help you enroll in courses that both challenge you and support your success at MCC.

ENGLISH

For English, review the Course Placement Questionnaire and Course Placement Flowchart for guidance on what level English course you should start with at MCC. After completing the questionnaire, connect with an MCC Counselor for help choosing the specific courses that are needed for your program of study.

MATH

MCC determines the math course placement level based on several factors:

1) High school GPA (based on at least 3 years of high school) OR
2) ACT math score OR
3) SAT math sub-score OR
4) ALEKS PPL score

Direct Placement (No support course required)
You qualify for direct placement into a 100-level mathematics course by meeting any of the following minimum score requirements::

Corequisite Support Course Required
If your scores fall slightly below the direct placement range,
MCC offers a non-credit linked support course for the following classes:

Example: A student with an SAT Math score of 26 should take 109A + 089.

What to do if you don’t qualify for
Direct Placement or Corequisite Support Placement?

If you plan to apply to MCC’s Nursing program or Respiratory Therapy program, please contact MCC’s Testing Center to schedule an Accuplacer Assessment. TestingCenter@muskegoncc.edu or (231) 777-0394.

Note: No prerequisite or placement assessment is needed for BUS 126-Business Math or TMAT math classes.
