Curtis Chin’s memoir, Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant, chronicles his personal history as a Chinese-American growing up in Detroit and the surrounding suburbs of Troy. Chin’s tale recounts his experiences (both humorous and emotional) of coming out as a gay Asian-American from his earliest remembrances with magazines at the corner store in urban Detroit to his time attending the University of Michigan.

Amusing and poignant, Chin’s story also offers insights into the daily workings of Chung’s Cantonese Cuisine, his beloved family restaurant, that nurtured and fed people from all walks of life in 1980s Detroit. Chin’s career outside of his time in Michigan includes co-founding the Asian American Writers’ Workshop in New York City and a writing career that spans numerous television writing and documentary filmmaking credits.

The program on Monday, April 13th, begins at 6:30 pm with doors opening at 6:00. The author will be signing copies of his book after the program and Chin’s book will be available for purchase through The Book Nook.
