Lecture Series: Is DEI Dead or Evolving? The Future of Diversity on College Campuses

Join MCC Faculty and Panelists Nicholas Budimir, Ken James, and Andy Wible for a discussion about the future of DEI in higher education.

On February 14, 2025, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights issued a Dear Colleague Letter (DCL). It instructed many educational institutions  to eliminate Diversity Equity and Inclusion efforts or run the risk of losing federal funding.

Since then, Universities and colleges have shut down DEI programs primarily due to legal and political mandates rather than internal decisions. State laws banning DEI, combined with federal pressure (via executive orders or implied funding threats), created a high-stakes environment where schools had little choice but to comply. In parallel, ideological opposition and legal challenges have amplified and accelerated these changes.

The lecture series aims to understand where it goes from here.
