MCC on Tap presents: Ghostwritten: It’s Time to Slay the Undead Essay (and Let AI Write the Obit)

For centuries, the college essay has lurked in the shadows of academia like a zombie that refuses to die. From its colonial resurgence in America to its continued grip on modern education, this undead assessment has haunted both students and instructors alike. But why? How does this medieval form of writing continue to get reanimated? And could generative AI be what finally slays this neolithic nightmare? Grab your proverbial torches and pitchforks and join Dr. Lockard on a wild hunt for answers, reform, and deliverance from the ghostly clutches of an archaic writing tradition. Stodgy professors, beware: you may find yourselves laughing at the absurdity of current practices, fuming at the audacity of one professor’s waggish rant, or—quite possibly—engaging in both. Attend this inaugural “MCC On Tap” event at your own risk!

Presented by Dr. Meg Lockard, Coordinator for the Center for Teaching and Learning – Instructional Designer – English and Communications Faculty
