Purpose of the Simulation Center

The primary purpose of simulation in healthcare is to improve the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of patient care. It provides a risk-free, controlled environment that mimics real-world clinical situations. This allows students to practice and refine their skills and critical thinking.

Each simulation immerses you in real-world clinical scenarios, allowing you to apply classroom concepts to situations you’ll encounter in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings. • Four fully equipped ICU simulation rooms designed for adult, obstetric, pediatric, and neonatal patient care.
• Advanced high-fidelity patient simulators that closely replicate real patients through realistic appearance, physiology, and responses.
• Realistic clinical experiences featuring breathing, blinking, heart and lung sounds, palpable pulses, anatomical landmarks, and voice capabilities.
• Hands-on training for real-world emergencies, including cardiac events, seizures, respiratory distress, allergic reactions, and other critical patient scenarios.
• Computerized simulators that can be programmed to present a wide variety of patient conditions, allowing students to safely practice assessment, communication, and clinical decision-making.
• Additional low-fidelity manikins and skills trainers provide opportunities to master essential hands-on techniques throughout a student’s education.
• Simulation technology from industry leaders including Elevate, Gaumard, KbPort and Laerdal.

Reflect, Learn, Improve: The Power of Debriefing

Debriefing is a critical part of every simulation experience, giving students the opportunity to reflect on their decisions, actions, and patient care approaches.

Through guided discussion and reflection, students explore what happened during the simulation, why they made certain choices, and how they can apply those lessons to future clinical situations.

Rather than a traditional lecture, debriefing is a student-centered learning experience led by a trained facilitator who encourages critical thinking and self-reflection. This process helps students strengthen clinical reasoning, improve decision-making, build confidence, and connect simulation experiences to real-world patient care.

Coming Fall 2026: The Next Generation of Simulation Learning

The Allied Health Simulation Center is taking hands-on learning to the next level with the arrival of the HAL S5301 high-fidelity simulator. Designed to replicate real-world patient scenarios, HAL will help students practice responding to complex health care situations, including heart failure, pneumonia, and other clinical challenges.

Featuring advanced artificial intelligence capabilities, this next-generation simulator will provide an even more realistic and interactive learning experience—helping future health care professionals build confidence, strengthen critical thinking skills, and prepare for the patients they will serve.
