MCC Begins Second Century with New Path Forward
Monday, July 27, 2026
Muskegon Community College has officially announced that its Board of Trustees approved the College’s 2026-2029 Strategic Plan, “Pathways to Success.” Serving as a roadmap for the College’s future, the plan is centered on one strategic imperative: to advance excellence in outcomes for all MCC students and to prepare them for success after college.
“At the heart of this plan is a belief that every student, regardless of background or starting point, deserves access to high-quality education, relevant programs, and the support needed to achieve their goals,” said MCC President Dr. John Selmon. “As the needs of our students, communities, and workforce evolve, MCC will do more than respond—we will lead with innovation and accountability.”
Among its key priorities, the College will work to increase enrollment among adult learners and students from underserved areas of Muskegon County, strengthen teaching through evidence-based instructional practices and professional development, improve graduation and transfer rates, expand employer partnerships and career preparation opportunities, and enhance institutional leadership and student support services.
“The Board recognizes and appreciates the collaboration of faculty, staff, administrators, students, and community stakeholders whose insight and leadership helped shape this plan,” the MCC Board of Trustees said in a collective statement. “As Trustees, we are committed to supporting the successful implementation of the strategic plan through effective governance, responsible stewardship of resources, and continued advocacy for the College and its mission.”
Each focus area includes measurable objectives, timelines, and benchmarks that will guide implementation through 2029. Detailed action plans, regular measurements, and progress reports will be developed to provide transparency.
The plan comes on the heels of the College’s centennial celebration in June, marking 100 years of serving students and the Muskegon community.
“As we enter our second century, this plan serves as both a promise and a call to action,” said Selmon. “Together, we will build on the strength of our past while boldly shaping the future, ensuring MCC remains a powerful engine of opportunity and community vitality for generations to come.”
