MCC Open House Aims to Remove Barriers to Success
Tuesday, August 25, 2026
Muskegon Community College will host its annual Jayhawk Frenzy from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, and Wednesday, Aug. 26, in Collegiate Hall, the Blue & Gold Room and Student Union. The free event will connect new and returning students with more than 40 community partners and MCC resources as they begin the fall semester.
Students can enjoy free food and outdoor games while connecting with more than 40 community partners from across Muskegon County. Partners will share information about valuable resources and services available to students both on and off campus.
In addition, students will have the opportunity to meet MCC support staff, academic coaches and tutors in the Blue & Gold Room and connect with student leaders, club advisors and student organizations in the Student Union.
“Jayhawk Frenzy has one goal in mind: to make sure our students have what they need to start the semester strong,” said MCC Student Success Manager and Frenzy Organizer, Helena Kore. “For students who may be nervous about starting somewhere new, this is a chance to find their people, discover their place on campus and connect with the resources that can make a real difference in their success.”
Free school supply bags will also be available to students, along with free food boxes filled with pantry staples to help students meet their basic needs as they begin the semester.
“Research shows that the first four weeks of the semester are critical to a student’s success,” Kore said. “When students get into good habits early, attend class, connect with their professors and take advantage of the resources available to them, they’re more likely to stay on track. We know food insecurity is one of the biggest challenges our students face, so we want to help take that worry off their plate and give them a strong start week one.”
Kore added that The Jayhawk Hub will remain open throughout the entire semester, providing food and other essential resources such as hygiene products and bus passes at no cost to anyone who needs them.
