Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MCC Placement Test?

The Accuplacer placement test is a computer-based test which is used to place you in classes that match your abilities. The Accuplacer test is a series of tests that will measure your level in reading comprehension, writing skills and math skills. You cannot fail the placement tests; they are used to help determine your starting point at MCC.

How long does it take to complete the placement tests?

Accuplacer tests are untimed. The reading test consists of 20 questions, the writing test consists of 25 questions and each level of math consists of 20 questions.  On average, it  takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to complete all three parts.

What will I need to take the test?

How will I get my scores?

Immediately after you finish taking the MCC Placement Test, you will receive a copy of your results.

Can I retake the placement test?

If necessary, students may retake the MCC Reading/Writing/Math Placement Tests one time. A 24-hour waiting period is required between initial test and retest. If a student has taken any portion of the test two times, the student will need permission from an MCC Counselor to take that portion a third time.
