Muskegon Community College will celebrate the life and legacy of longtime Music Director Daniel M. Meyers with an evening of music, reflection and remembrance on Thursday, Sept. 24.

The Daniel M. Meyers Memorial Celebration will begin at 7 p.m. in the MCC Overbrook Theater. The event is presented by MCC’s Arts & Humanities Department in cooperation with the Foundation for Muskegon Community College.

A highlight of the evening will be the official renaming of the Large Ensemble Room in MCC’s Arts and Music Building in honor of Meyers. Meyers was instrumental in helping visualize the facility and played an important role in bringing the project from concept to reality.

The celebration will feature musical performances by a brass ensemble, speakers reflecting on Meyers’ life and impact, and a reception with refreshments. No registration is required.

Meyers served as MCC’s Director of Music for 15 years, leading the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Jayhawk Sound Pep Band. He also taught humanities courses and contributed to numerous campus events and committees. His life was tragically cut short in December of 2025 following a snowmobile accident.

“Dan was a champion for higher education, a talented musician and a gifted leader whose commitment to students touched countless lives,” MCC President Dr. John Selmon said. “And he was a dear friend.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Daniel M. Meyers Memorial Arts & Humanities Endowment, which supports the arts and humanities at MCC in his honor.
