New partnership allows MCC Jayhawks to be CMU Chippewas from Day One
Thursday, November 5, 2026
Muskegon Community College (MCC) and Central Michigan University (CMU) plan to announce a new partnership Monday, November 9, 2026, at 2pm that is designed to help more students pursue a bachelor’s degree through an innovative dual-admission and co-enrollment program.
Known as “Central Bound,” students can establish their connection to Central Michigan University while beginning their education at Muskegon Community College. Participants may complete up to two years of coursework at MCC before continuing at CMU or enroll in classes at both simultaneously. Regardless of which path they choose, students are recognized as CMU Chippewas from the beginning and can access university services and resources throughout their academic journey.
“We are proud to partner with Muskegon Community College, an institution that has consistently demonstrated its commitment to student success,” said CMU President Dr. Neil MacKinnon. “Central Bound builds on that commitment by giving students greater access to the resources, support and educational opportunities they need to achieve their goals. By working together, we can create a more seamless path to a bachelor’s degree and help more students realize their full potential.”
Students who participate in Central Bound will apply to both MCC and CMU and will have access to financial aid throughout their academic careers. The program is available to both prospective students and those already enrolled at either school.
“We are grateful to Central Michigan University for its vision and forward-thinking approach,” said MCC President Dr. John Selmon. “By working together, we are doing more than creating a path to a bachelor’s degree — we are making a meaningful difference in students’ lives and helping them build brighter futures.”
Enrollment for Muskegon Community College students is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2027.
The announcement and signing ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. in Gerber Lounge, located in the lobby of MCC’s main building at 221 S. Quarterline Road in Muskegon.
