Taylor Martinez with MCC President Dr. John Selmon

Last year's scholarship winner, Taylor Martinez, poses with MCC President Dr. John Selmon.

High school students and adults of all ages will have the chance to win a free, two-year scholarship at Muskegon Community College (MCC) during the MCC Expo on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A diverse array of over 80 programs, student resources, and financial aid experts will be on hand during the public event at MCC’s Health and Wellness Center located at 221 South Quarterline Road in Muskegon.

College staff will be available to answer questions about the newly expanded Michigan Reconnect Scholarship offering a tuition-free college scholarship to those 21 and older. Participants can also learn more about the many other ways to pay for college and student life. Faculty members will share information about academic options, hands-on technical training, two-year degrees, and transferable credits. During the event, attendees will be entered to win several prizes including the scholarship.

At the end of the event, MCC’s President, Dr. John Selmon will award one lucky winner a two-year scholarship to MCC. This scholarship is transferable, and the winner must already hold a high school diploma or GED to qualify. The winner must activate the scholarship within a year of receiving it. Tuition is payable 4 years after the recipient or transferee activates the scholarship and enrolls, or until the recipient/transferee has attempted the total number of credits required by his/her chosen program, or until the total value of the award is exhausted, whichever comes first.

Muskegon Community College offers 54 associate degree programs and 32 certificate programs in Muskegon, Newaygo, and Ottawa counties. Located on a 100-acre scenic campus, MCC is consistently recognized as one of the top community colleges in the state of Michigan.

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. For more information, please visit:
