Muskegon Community College will host its final informational meeting about the recently expanded Muskegon Area Promise Scholarship on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will take place outside the Counseling & Advising and Welcome Center spaces on MCC’s main campus, with information tables located near the former Campus Safety desk.

The event is open to prospective students of any age, families, and community members seeking guidance on how to access the scholarship and enroll at the College. MCC staff from Admissions, Financial Aid, Counseling & Advising, and Student Services will be available to answer questions, explain eligibility requirements, and provide step-by-step assistance before the start of the fall semester.

Starting in Fall 2026, the Muskegon Area Promise Scholarship eliminated GPA requirements for students admitted to Muskegon Community College, making the scholarship available to all qualified Muskegon County high school graduates. Previously, students were required to meet minimum GPA thresholds ranging from 3.25 to 3.4.

“There has never been a better time for past and future Muskegon County high school graduates to learn how the Promise works,” said Muskegon Community College Director of Admissions Sarah Luker. “The expansion of the Promise opens the door for so many more students to access a college education here at MCC.”

The scholarship continues to require an annual FAFSA submission and applies to graduates of Muskegon County high schools or homeschools. The updated eligibility requirements took effect beginning with the Fall 2026 semester and make the scholarship available to all qualified graduates from the Class of 2015 forward.

Promise Scholarships support a variety of educational pathways, including short-term certificate programs, associate degree programs, and bachelor’s degree programs at approved eligible institutions.

The Promise Scholarship provides the financial assistance necessary to earn a high-quality credential when used in conjunction with federal, state, and institutional grants. Awards may be used for a variety of educational expenses as identified by Promise Zone law.

Eligible students may attend full time or part time, and scholarship eligibility does not expire until a student earns a qualifying credential or degree. Promise Scholarship awards will not be forfeited until a high-quality degree or credential—including an industry-recognized certificate, license, associate degree, or bachelor’s degrees obtained.
