Showcase features new theatrical works from generation shaped by technology

Muskegon Community College’s Center for Theater will present “Written by Humans,” a staged reading of original monologues and short plays exploring the themes of isolation, connection and technology.

The production will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, as part of the Shoreline Theatre Festival in Muskegon and again at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, on MCC’s Main Campus in The Underbrook (Room 3021), an intimate blackbox staging configuration.

MCC Center for Theater Director Les Rorick said the works provide a particularly compelling look at the experiences of a generation that has grown up surrounded by digital technology.

“Not only are these works extremely compelling and, at times, brilliant, they offer a glimpse into the consciousness of a generation that has never known a world without smartphones or social media,” Rorick said. “These are young people trying to make sense of the world they have inherited and the technology that has become such an integral part of their lives,” Rorick said.

The works featured in “Written by Humans” will be written and workshopped throughout September by MCC students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the Muskegon community.
