Welcome to Updraft: The Jayhawk Field Guide for Writers!
Every writer starts somewhere. Whether you’re drafting your first college essay, polishing a resume, tackling a research project, or just trying to get your ideas on the page, the Writing Center is here to help you take flight. This blog is an extension of that mission—your space to find tips, encouragement, and practical strategies for every stage of the writing process.
Here you’ll find posts on everything from brainstorming and revision hacks to citation help, study skills, and writing-related events happening on campus. We’ll also share resources for resumes, scholarships, and personal writing—because writing isn’t just for class, it’s for life. We will also share publishing opportunities welcoming fledgling writers interested in spreading their wings and pursuing publication, as well as spotlight MCC student writings that exude excellence and creativity.
Think of this blog as your field guide: a compass to return to when you need a quick answer, a bit of motivation, or a reminder that you’re not navigating the writing journey alone. We’re excited to grow this space with you and for you. Feel free to contact the Writing Center at writingcenter@muskegoncc.edu to offer suggestions for Updraft, submit content, and ask questions.
Let’s start writing, revising, and rising together. As the poet Charles Olson used to say—”Onward!”
