Overview of Respiratory Therapy
The Respiratory Therapy (RT) Program at Muskegon Community College is a face-to-face program that prepares students for careers as registered respiratory therapists (RRTs).
The program covers adult, neonatal, and pediatric critical care, and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). Graduates earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS) and are eligible to take the National Board for Respiratory Care Examinations, leading to state licensure. RTs work in hospitals, diagnostic labs, rehab centers, and home care agencies, performing therapeutic procedures and diagnostic tests. The program combines classroom instruction with clinical practice in West Michigan hospitals and offers distance education in collaboration with Munson Medical Center and Northwestern Michigan College.
Misson
The Respiratory Care Program’s mission is to prepare competent Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCPs) who demonstrate the ability to apply relevant theory with the necessary psychomotor skills and behavior consistent with effective Respiratory Care delivery.
Application Process:
After completing an application to Muskegon Community College and being accepted, the Respiratory Therapy (RT) Program has a separate admissions process and an application to the RT Program is required.
