Sharing Commitment to Achieving the Dream Initiative

Thirteen Muskegon Community College administrators, faculty and staff shared information about the college’s successful Achieving the Dream (AtD) initiatives with colleagues from around the country at the recent AtD Annual Meeting on Student Success in Anaheim, Cal.

Kelley Conrad, who chairs the MCC Counseling and Advising Center, and MCC English Instructor Jenny Klingenberg, spoke about building campus-wide engagement for culture change and student success.

“Developing broad-based support for a student success agenda and a culture of evidence is a big deal and it doesn’t happen by accident,” Klingenberg told the national audience while outlining MCC’s path to garnering campus support.

Mike Alstrom, CIO at MCC, presented on the college’s Early Alert System, which uses Courses Signals to identify at risk students and improve their outcomes through faculty communication and feedback.

MCC Math Instructor Jon Meeuwenberg talked about mathematics initiatives that MCC has launched to improve the performance of its students in entry level math courses.
