Free Event: Everything You Wanted to Know About College But Were Afraid to Ask!

Parents of college-aged students, whether they are considering a community college or a university, are invited to attend “The Next Big Step,” a free informational seminar at Muskegon Community College on Tuesday evening, Feb. 26.

Participants will look at important financial, academic and career-related considerations facing students and their parents. They can maximize their children’s educational experience by knowing the many options available to them.

The seminar takes place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in MCC’s Room 116. The program is free of charge, but participants must pre-register. Interested parents can e-mail darlene.peklar@muskegoncc.edu or call (231) 777-0366 to reserve a spot.

“In addition to getting the parents of students who are definitely college-bound, we hope to attract parents who may feel that college is out of reach so that we can show them that there are affordable ways to help anyone get a college education,” explains Cindy Reuss, Dean of Enrollment Services.  “The seminar is free and open to anyone, regardless of where they want to send their kids to college.”

Among the topics being discussed are:

  • The best ways to get grants, scholarships, and other forms of financial aid
  • The return on investment – earning 22% more on average – with an associate’s degree
  • How to compare tuition rates and understand the true cost of college attendance
  • The different types of degrees and certificates and how credits transfer
