Thursday, October 26 @ 6:30 PM
Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 185 E. Pontaluna Road, Norton Shores, MI

Byzantine Iconography

Join us for a free presentation on how Byzantine iconography, architecture, and Christian symbolism served as both a historical and spiritual influence in spreading the early Christian faith.  Professor George Maniates, of Muskegon Community College, will be joined by Rev. Joseph Gingrich  and William Neal of Annunciation Orthodox Church in Norton Shores, as they delve into the events, style, and symbolism of this 2,000-year-old religion and its impact on European history.

Using the most massive tableau of Byzantine icons in western Michigan and the architecture of an Eastern Orthodox church as a teaching tools, this lecture will be the first in a series of programs exploring the impact of religion on the history of Western Civilization.  The program traces the rise of Christianity in the early Roman Empire to its development into the Eastern Orthodox faith by using icons and their symbolism.

THIS PRESENTATION IS A SECULAR HISTORY PROGRAM. All are invited to this free lecture/presentation.
