LECTURE: “The Influenza of 1918 and COVID-19 Pandemics that Impacted the U.S. and the World”

Muskegon Community College History Instructors George Maniates and Kurt Troutman will discuss “The Influenza of 1918 and COVID-19 Pandemics that Impacted the U.S. and the World” at the Montague Branch Library, 8778 Ferry St. #2, in Montague, MI.

The talk is free and open to the public. Guitarist Kwame James will provide musical accompaniment.

In 1918, a worldwide flu virus infected 500 million people and killed an estimated 50 million. Maniates and Troutman will discuss in detail the impact of this historical global virus outbreak, while pointing out the noteworthy similarities to the current coronavirus pandemic.
