Following the ceremony in the new facility’s gymnasium, a formal ribbon cutting will be held inside the building’s main entrance. Attendees will have an opportunity to tour the Center, which will not officially open until January for the start of the Winter Semester classes. Refreshments will be served.

Welcoming the guests will be MCC Provost/Executive Vice President John Selmon. MCC President Dale K. Nesbary will acknowledge the dignitaries and introduce the speakers.

Those providing remarks are: Diana Osborn, Vice Chair of the MCC Board of Trustees; Gary Allore, President of Mercy Health Muskegon; Cynthia McCurren, Ph.D., RN, FNAP, Dean of Kirkhof College of Nursing at Grand Valley State University; Kristen Brown, MD, Vice President of the Physician Network, Mercy Health Physician Partners; Kelley Conrad, MCC Vice President for Academic Affairs; and MCC Student Government Association Vice President Nickolas Ponce and Treasurer Brianna White.

The 52,000 square foot Health and Wellness Center will house the College’s Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department; the Medical Assistant Program; the Athletic Department Office; a state-of-the-art Health Simulation Lab for MCC students in nursing, respiratory therapy, and medical assistant programs; several collaborative learning spaces; large and small classrooms; the Ron Gaffner Multipurpose Room; a regulation wood floor gymnasium; a one-tenth mile indoor running track; and a fitness center.

Built on one contiguous floor level, the $14.1 million facility will also house the Mercy Health Partners Primary Care Center, a collaboration between MCC and its Mercy Health and Grand Valley State University educational partners. The suite contains eight exam rooms, a treatment room, a lab, and will provide MCC nursing students and medical assistant with opportunities for required clinical hours.
