The grand opening ceremony for the Muskegon Community College Ottawa Center is set for Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the college’s new facility on 16777 Lincoln St., just off from US 31, in Grand Haven, MI.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will include brief remarks, a ribbon cutting, tours and refreshments.
MCC President Dale K. Nesbary will emcee the event. Speakers include: MCC Board of Trustees Chair Diana Osborn; Ottawa County Administrator and MCC alumnus Al Vanderberg; Shape Corp. President & CEO Mark White; Chamber of Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg President Joy Gaasch; MCC Vice President for Academic Affairs Kelley Conrad, and Ottawa County Early College student Julia Clark.
Purchased by the college in December 2018, the Ottawa Center underwent a $450,000 renovation to replace MCC’s rented location in the Grand Haven Community Center. MCC first began offering classes in Grand Haven in the late 1970s.
“Muskegon Community College has served Ottawa County for decades,” said Nesbary. “By establishing this Center, we expect to serve Ottawa residents for years to come.”
The 6,550 square foot Ottawa Center, which includes an adjoining 80-space parking lot, contains two partitioned smart technology classrooms that can be opened to seat up to 100 people, a computer lab, a flexible use room, a student lounge and an administrative office.
Classes officially begin at the Ottawa Center on Aug. 26. MCC also offers classes in Ottawa County at the GVSU Meijer Campus in Holland and the Community Services Building in Coopersville.
