Evin Rodkey, Ph.D.

MCC Anthropology Instructor Dr. Evin Rodkey will address on “Mexican Immigration: What’s Really Going On?” on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. in at the Spring Lake District Library. The event is free and open to the public.

Rodkey will provide an enlightening discussion on the complex issue of Mexican immigration. Going beyond sensationalized headlines, he will explore the greater political and economic framework that gives rise to this situation, both historically and in contemporary society. Rodkey will examine U.S.-Mexico relations, illegal immigration and the current political situation, including a proposed border wall between the countries.

He earned his Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. For his dissertation, Rodkey made several trips to the Dominican Republic conducting research with people deported there from the U.S., examining their survival strategies and connection with the U.S. economy. He is president of the Society for Anthropology in Community Colleges.
