Michigan Consortium of Botanists Conference

Free PresentationsThe Michigan Consortium of Botanists (MiCOB) will hold its 10th Annual Conference at Muskegon Community College on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the MCC Science Center.
MiCOB is a state-wide community of botanical professionals dedicated to advancing the study of Michigan’s flora by providing a centralized platform for facilitating communication, and sharing resources, research, and expertise in plant biology.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Lukas Bell-Dereske, Michigan State University, discussing “Climate Change and Our Dunes.” Other presenters and their topics include:
- Todd Aschenbach, Grand Valley State University, “Prescribed Fire and Ecological Restoration Research in West Michigan”
- Ranessa Cooper, Western Illinois University, “From the Great White North to the Mitten – 20-plus Years of Botanizing in the Sand;” and
- Michael Penskar, University of Michigan, “Michigan’s Rare Plants.”
Student posters will be on display in the Science Center Atrium. Attendance to the presentations is free. There is a fee of $25 for adults and $17 for students who want to attend the breakfast and lunch. The deadline to register for the meals is Oct. 14.
