2017-18 Honors and Awards

MCC held its annual Outstanding Student-Athlete Awards Luncheon on June 1 in the Blue and Gold Room. The 2017-18 finalists and their families were invited to the event. Robbie Berg (left), who was MCC’s first-ever First Team NJCAA Volleyball All-American, was the John G. Thompson Student Athlete of the Year Award winner. Samantha Taylor, team captain and defensive standout on MCC’s state championship basketball team, was voted the Female Athlete of the Year. Sergio Diaz, a two-time all-conference basketball player, was named the Male Athlete of the Year.

Fall 2017-18 Athletic Awards

 Volleyball finished 26-17 and ranked 19th in the nation and advanced to the 2017 MCCAA championship match. Women’s cross country finished 30th in the nation. Men’s cross country finished 34th in the nation. Women’s Soccer finished 9-7- and was the NJCAA Region XII runner-up. Men’s soccer advanced to the Region XII quarterfinals.

Winter 2017-18 Athletic Awards

 Women’s bowling finished 5th in the nation. Women’s basketball finished 22-7 and won the Michigan Community College Athletic Association championship. Wrestling finished 14th in the nation. Men’s bowling finished 18th in the nation. Men’s basketball finished 16-14 and advanced to the NJCAA Regional semifinals.

 Men’s track and field took second place at the NJCAA Region XII Meet. Men’s golf tied for 89th in the nation and finished fifth in the region. Baseball was 27-18 overall and finished fourth in the Western Conference. Softball was 9-19 overall finished sixth in the Western Conference.
