The Jayhawk Cross Country Team traveled to Port Huron to compete in the St. Clair County Community College Invitational.
On a wet and muddy course the Jayhawks competed against a crowded field of 18 teams. Average times were about 45 seconds to 1 minute slower than usual. Kyler Dean (Vicksburg) fought hard and came away with a conference victory in the final 1000m. Alex Fahey (Rockford) finished 33rd and William Ripple (North Muskegon) finished 48th. There were 130 runners in the men’s race.
The women’s race had 17 teams competing. The Jayhawk women finished 6th overall and were the 5th best JUCO team, just narrowly missing out on top 4 by 8 points. Leading the way were Kierra Flegel (Kent City) and Sierra Vanderwier (Fruitport) who finished 28th and 29th in conference scoring. Rounding out the field for the team were Elizabeth Chaffee (Newaygo) 38th, Madison Parmley (Whitehall) 42nd, and Jolena Deaton (White Cloud) 63rd. There was 97 runners in the race.
The Jayhawks will be back in action October 14th when they will host the Jayhawk Invite at University Park Golf Course.
