Outdoor Track & Field-Western Michigan University

April 13 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Final

The Jayhawk Track & Field teams headed to Western Michigan University to compete. On Friday the throwers competed and on Saturday the whole team made the trip.

On Friday sisters Gaby and Maya Reeve (White Cloud) battled 40 mph wind gusts while throwing the discus. Both Gaby and Maya had success with the 14th and 15th best marks in the nation. Both marks were also collegiate PRs and only .5 meters off the school record.

On Saturday Kyler Dean (Vicksburg) continued his dominance for the Jayhawks by placing 2nd in the 1500m with a 3:59 which puts him in the Top 20 nationally. This mark also breaks his current school record and moves him up on the qualifying list. In the sprints Allen Payne (West Ottawa) was the top men’s sprinter running 11.1 for the 100m and 22.44 for the 200m ( 51st nationally). Both were collegiate PRs and lifetime bests. The men’s 200m sprint crew now sits as the 10th best group in the country.

For the Women’s team Kierra Flegel (Kent City) battled the wind in an almost solo effort to run 5:27 for a collegiate PR and 3rd all time on MCCs record board for that event.

Next up for the Jayhawks will be a trip to GVSU to compete in the Al Owens Classic on Friday, 4/19 and Saturday, 4/20.
