The Jayhawk Softball team completed the season sweep of Grand Rapids Community College with two wins on the road, 6-1 and 15-7 (9 innings).

Lilli Goodrich (Ludington) got the win in the opener. She threw all 7 innings and allowed 1 run on 5 hits with 11 strikeouts. Brooklyn Galdeen (Oakridge) was 2-2 at the plate, Hannah Aldred (Grand Haven) was 3-4, Illeana Hatcher (Whitehall) was 3-5 including a triple and a home run good for 3 RBI and Andrea Romero (Oakridge) was 2-4.

Game 2 was a marathon. MCC jumped out to a 6-0 lead after 2 innings but GRCC chipped away with runs in the 3rd, 5th and 6th before they tied the game in the bottom of the 7th inning. Neither team scored in the 8th but MCC exploded for 8 runs in the top of the 9th for the win. All 3 Jayhawk pitchers threw in the game with Galdeen picking up the win. Seven different hitters finished with multiple hits in the game, led by Andrea Romero’s 4 hits including 2 doubles. Galdeen was 3-4 with a homerun and the Staal sisters each added 3 hits.

MCC is now 11-1 in the Northern Conference and 18-8 overall. Next up will be games against 2nd place Delta College at home on Friday, 4/19. First pitch is at 2:00 pm.
