The Jayhawk Softball team defeated their rivals from Grand Rapids Community College, 8-4 and 17-2 (5 innings).
In the opener Brooklyn Galdeen (Oakridge) threw all 7 innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits with 5 strikeouts. She also was 1-3 with a homerun and 2 RBI. Willo Staal (Fruitport) was 2-4 including 2 doubles and 2 RBI, Hannah Aldred (Grand Haven) was 1-1 and Illeana Hatcher (Whitehall) added a homerun and 3 RBI.
In game 2 Aldred got the win on the mound; she gave up 2 runs on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts. The Jayhawk offense pounded out 17 hits, led by Andrea Romero (Oakridge) and Olive Staal (Fruitport) who were both 3-3 for the game. Galdeen and Willo Staal each finished 3-4 and Hatcher and Rachel Romero (Hesperia) finished 2-4.
The two teams will complete the season series with a doubleheader at Belknap Park on Sunday, 4/14 with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm.
