The MCC Jayhawk Women’s Soccer team wrapped up the regular season with an impressive 3-0 win on Sophomore day over the visitors from Lake Michigan College.
The Jayhawks played a strong team defense, limiting the Red Hawks to 1 shot on goal. Grace Caywood (Zeeland West) earned her 12th shutout of the season behind her defensive group of Sarah Zielinski (Fruitport), Jaqi Bocanegra (Zeeland East), Tia Martinez (Zeeland West) and Alexa Musk (Mona Shores). Musk put the Jayhawks on the board with her second PK in as many days. Just before half-time, Lainey Canan’s (Zeeland East) well-timed run to the back post had her finding Hannah Osterholm’s (New Haven) well-placed pass for a perfect header to the back of the net. Saidee Raap (Oakridge) finished up the scoring 3 minutes into the second half as she won the ball in front of the goal after a perfect combination between Canan and Emily Olsen (North Muskegon). Canan earned the Giraffe of the game for her strong play at outside mid.
MCC finishes the regular season with a 9-3-3 record. They will open NJCAA Regional play on Saturday, 10/29 when they faceoff against the Jackson College Jets at St. Clair County Community College at 6:30 pm.
