The Women’s Soccer team claimed their first victory of the young season with a thrilling 3-2 win over Lake Michigan College at home.
Lake Michigan got on the board first 13 minutes into the game, but the Jayhawks responded in the 22nd minute with a goal by Marissa Strandberg (Whitehall) off an assist from McKenna Gentry (Muskegon Catholic Central). MCC took their first lead of the season early in the 2nd half with a goal by Lainey Canan (Zeeland East) with an assist to Lydia Sowles (Mona Shores). Canan then assisted Gentry in the 63rd minute to extend to lead to 3-1. Lake Michigan scored again, but couldn’t get the equalizer and the Jayhawks held on for the win. Brooke Bradley (Reeths-Puffer) and Taeah Rensberger (Reeths-Puffer) were outstanding and MCC got a boost with the return of Kyren DeVries (Coopersville) and Samantha Van Dort (Zeeland West).
MCC is 1-3 in conference play and 1-3 overall. They host Jackson College on Wednesday, 9/6 at Orchard View High School.
