28th Annual CAD/Drawing Contest Winners Chosen

More than 90 students from eight high schools competed in the 28th Annual Muskegon Community College CAD/Drawing Contest on campus March 14. Top finishers in four divisions were selected and will be recognized at an Awards Banquet on Tuesday evening, April 22, in MCC’s Blue and Gold Room.

The top place finishers by category are: 

Beginning Sketching: Students were given a part that was printed on the MCC 3D printer. They had to measure the part with a six-inch scale and then create a pencil sketch of that part complete with dimensions. 

  • 1st Place: Brad Lanser, Hudsonville Unity Christian High School
  • 2nd Place: Keegan Morren, Hudsonville Unity Christian High School
  • 3rd Place: Tara Vandermeer, Hudsonville Unity Christian High School
  • Honorable Mention: Noah Bollo, Hudsonville Unity Christian High School
  • Honorable Mention: Joshua Horstman, Hudsonville Unity Christian High School                       

Beginning 2D AutoCAD: Similar to Beginning Sketching in drawing complexity except students had to create their drawings using AutoCAD (2D). 

  • 1st Place: Christopher Anderson, Reeths Puffer High School
  • 2nd Place: Lance Zelent, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center
  • 3rd Place: Brendan Nelson, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center
  • Honorable Mention: Jacob Chvala, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center                       

3D Solid Modeling/Solid Modeling: Given a very complex drawing problem, students had to create a solid model of the part using AutoCAD 2014 3D (Solid Modeler), Inventor 2014 or Solidworks 2013. 

  • 1st Place: David Dipple, Hudsonville High School
  • 2nd Place: Phoenix Elzinga, Holland Christian High School
  • 3rd Place: Nicholas Bloem, Coopersville High School
  • Honorable Mention: Mackenna Senti, Hudsonville Unity Christian High School                       

3D Solid Modeling/Assembly/Drawing:  Asked to complete a project, students had to model several parts, assemble those parts and create an assembly drawing with multiple views, balloons and a complete bill of material using AutoCAD 2014 3D (Solid Modeler), Inventor 2014 or Solidworks 2013. 

  • 1st Place: Colton Schreur, Hudsonville Unity Christian High School
  • 2nd Place: Alec Bays, Newaygo Tech Center
  • 3rd Place: Will Finkler, Coopersville High School
  • Honorable Mention: Riley Scott, Fruitport High School
