Overbrook Gallery features the talents of an MCC theater technician with “Brian J. Goodman: Works for the Stage.” On display through Dec. 14, the show features some of Goodman’s creative work for the stage spanning 15 years.The exhibit is free and open to the public.
Trained as a scenic artist in the traditional apprenticeship method, Goodman has also worked with the Muskegon Civic Theater and served as a guest scenic artist at Grand Valley State University. The Overbrook Gallery exhibit tracks the development of ideas from initial concept through preparatory drawings and constructed maquettes, or small-scale models, to final full-scale set pieces for the theater.
Included are set designs from such MCC theater productions as Frankenstein, A Christmas Carol, King Lear, Escanaba in ‘da Moonlight, and many other favorites. Full-size scenic paintings demonstrating various techniques are also featured.
A free public reception will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 6-7:30 p.m. with a gallery talk by the Goodman beginning at 6:30 p.m.
