Community members are encouraged to participate in the Muskegon Community College (MCC) Community Summit on Wednesday, September 27, from 4-5:30pm.  Attendees will receive progress reports and will have the opportunity to share input on upcoming initiatives with MCC’s leadership team.

“While we will provide a brief report on our progress in meeting strategic plan goals, the most important aspect of the event is to provide students and other stakeholders with an opportunity to influence the future of their community college,” explained Tina Dee, Director of Strategic Initiatives.  “We are ‘the college of the community,’ so it’s important to consistently seek feedback on our institutional goals.”

The event opens with brief comments from MCC’s president, Dr. John Selmon, who will summarize key accomplishments from the past year and introduce pressing topics for the coming year.  The summit event features three stations, one for each institutional priority, with summit participants rotating to each station to provide input on key topics related to the college’s strategic priorities: access, equity, and excellence.

“This event is just one of the ways we ensure our strategic plan continues to meet the evolving needs of students and community members,” explained Selmon.  “Our strategic plan was developed in 2021 with the input of 46 organizations and over 2,000 people.  Ongoing stakeholder input is vital to making sure we remain on track with achieving our objective—to position MCC as one of the best community colleges in the nation, based on student success data.  Our students deserve the best opportunities for success.”

The event, which will be in Collegiate Hall on MCC’s main campus, is open to all and reservations are not needed.  Those who are not able to attend in person will have the opportunity to provide input by means of an online survey or can send suggestions by email to strategic@muskegoncc.edu.  The survey link and additional event information is available at www.muskegoncc.edu/strategicinitiatives/2023/09/05/summit.

Throughout 2021, Muskegon Community College engaged campus and community members in a process to develop the Muskegon Community College 2022-2026 strategic plan. Under the direction of the MCC Integrated Planning Steering Committee, 150 students, community stakeholders, and employees served on six committees to identify three priorities and ten goals for the new 54-month strategic plan.  Additional information about the MCC 2022-2026 Strategic Plan, entitled “Aspiring to Be the Best,” is available at www.muskegoncc.edu/aspiring.  For more information, contact Tina Dee, Director of Strategic Initiatives, at (231) 777-0660 or by email at tina.dee@muskegoncc.edu.
