MCC is celebrating Native-American History Month in November by hosting the popular Tri-Cities Museum exhibit: Birch, Bark, and Bateaux in the college’s Hendrik Meijer Library.
The exhibit tells the fascinating story of the French and Native American cultures during the era of the Great Lakes fur trade. Admission is free. The exhibit hours are Monday-Thursday 7:30a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed Saturday, and open Sunday 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The exhibit will remain in the library until the end of December.
Birch, Bark, and Bateaux includes engaging graphics, text and a rich array of artifacts recovered from Fort Michilimakinac, Fort St. Joseph, and the shipwreck of the 17th century flagship LeBelle which carried Great Lakes explorer and trader Robert de la Salle. The wreck of the LeBelle is considered one of the most significant archaeological finds in all of North America. Many of the artifacts are being presented for the first time.
