The captivating work of a former Muskegon Community College art instructor and one of his pupils is on display in Overbrook Art Gallery in an exhibit entitled "Legacy: the photography of John Walson and his student Gale Nobes."
The show continues until April 26. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday. For more information, call the Overbrook Gallery office at (231) 777-0324.
The works of these award-winning artists complement each other. Nobes produces black-and-white studies of nature, while Walson’s color photographs deal with the human condition. Together, there is a fullness of visual satisfaction in the resulting unity.
Both artists work with a digital camera. Digital technology allows the artist to alter the original optical subject. Nobes uses an infrared camera which produces spectral forms that intensifies the power of the natural scene. Walson’s digital tool is 
the computer program Adobe Photoshop – his electronic magic. With appropriate computer commands, Walson is able to convert his original photographs from the simplest modification of lights and darks to complex abstract distortions.
This exhibition will likely provide something for everyone. Responses may range anywhere from amusement to profound inspiration.
