Muskegon Community College will join universities and colleges across the country in celebrating International Education Week on Nov. 12-16 will talks, films, discussions and more.
A joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the Department of Education, International education Week gives MCC an ideal venue to promote its programs that prepare students to live and succeed in today’s global environment.
On Monday, Nov. 12, the 12th annual International Student Panel Discussion takes place in Stevenson Center Room 1100 from 7-8 p.m. MCC’s international students will talk about their homelands and native cultures. There will be student speakers from Brazil, Mexico, Hong Kong, Columbia, and Nepal. Panel moderator Papa N’Jai, a native of Sierra Leone, West Africa, is a geography and anthropology instructor at MCC.
The International Opportunity Fair takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Bistro Hallway. The event gives students and visitors an opportunity to learn about MCC’s study/travel classes to Belize, Germany and Mexico. Students who participated in the MCC study and travel opportunities will be on hand to discuss the programs.
On Tuesday, the film “Invictus” will be shown at 2 p.m. and the German film “The Lives of Others” will be shown at 7 p.m. Both movies will be presented in the Blue and Gold Room.
On both Wednesday, Nov. 14, and Thursday, Nov. 15, the documentary “Crossing Borders” will be featured twice, at 10:15a.m. in Collegiate Hall and again in Room 246 at 1 p.m. and, on Thursday, at 1:30 p.m.
International Education Week events conclude Thursday evening with “From the Alps to the North Sea,” a presentation about travelling in Germany by language instructors Bill Scarborough and Kathy Tosa. The travelogue takes place from 7-8 p.m. in the Blue and Gold Room.
