Muskegon Community College will celebrate Women’s History Month throughout March with a series of films and talks, as well as an informative panel discussion on succeeding in non-traditional careers. All the events are free and open to the public.
The series kicks off on Thursday, March 7, with the presentation of the film, “Straightlaced: How Genders Got Us All Tied Up” in the Blue and Gold Room from 12:30– 2 p.m. MCC Instructor Gretchen Cline will facilitate a discussion following the movie.
On Wednesday, March 13, MCC Instructor Papa N’Jai and guest Mary Brown will hold a discussion after presenting the noted PBS documentary “Half the Sky” in Collegiate Hall from 12:30 – 20 p.m.
The film series concludes Wednesday, March 20, with the award-winning 2011 documentary “Miss Representation” held in the Blue and Gold Room from 12:30 –2 p.m. The discussion will be led by MCC Instructor Irene Church.
A panel discussion, titled “Students and Professionals: Choosing and Succeeding in Non-Traditional Careers,” will take place on Wednesday, March 26, from 4-5:30 p.m.in the Blue and Gold Room. Panel members include Warden of the Michigan Correctional Facility in Muskegon Sherry Burt, student Tamar Erickson, Vice President of Academic Affairs Teresa Sturrus, East Muskegon Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractor and Manager Julie Lyvere, and MCC Engineering Instructor Kathleen Liefer. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Pamela Smith.
