MCC, GVSU to Present One-Act Play April 5-6

MCC Theater Department is joining with Grand Valley State University to present a one-act play from MCC alumna and current GVSU student Sherri Slater.

“Loudmouths: A Slice of Unsilenced Pie” will be staged on Friday-Saturday, April 5-6, at 7:30 p.m. in MCC’s Overbrook Theater. A discussion will follow each performance. The event is free and open to the public.

The show features commentary by visionary women encountered in a liberal studies journey. The cast, a mix of MCC and GVSU theater students, includes: Francine Harryman, Anna Sanderlin, Michelle Reimer, Sonya Hernandez, Loretta Robinson, Victoria Grant, Lisa Hackney, Beth Adkins, Alyssa Dyksterhouse, Barbara Jones, and Erin Mickelson.

Slater wrote the combined performance and lecture to bring a diversity of women’s voices to the stage that would more likely be found in print.

“These are women I have been introduced to from a variety of sources, and in discovering them, I have been moved and challenged to understand their passions, convictions, their bravery, their courageous acts, insights, their mission to take a stand, to make a difference, to change the world,” said Slater.

“We find ourselves in awe so many times by the courage and spirit of others. But more often than not, we turn the page and keep reading or consider a nap instead. Well, this is about those bits. This piece is a cherry-picker’s heaven. I have been a pillager of phrases that yell out, ‘Bring me to life!’ This is a found language piece on women who are not and have not been silent and their lack of silence has made a difference. They will encourage you as they have me to stand up and speak your piece.”
