MCC Hosts 28th Annual CAD/Drafting Contest March 21

The 28th Annual Muskegon Community College CAD/Drafting Contest is being held at MCC on Friday, March 21. The contest takes place from 9:15-11:15 a.m. in the Rooms 244 and 244-1 and is sponsored by MCC, the West Michigan Chapter of the American Foundry Society and many local businesses/educational institutions.

Open to high school and tech centers students from local counties, the entrants compete in four divisions: Beginning Sketching, Beginning 2D AutoCAD, 3D Solid Modeling, and 3D Solid Modeling/Assembly/Drawing.

Last year, 91 students participated from nine regional schools: Calvin Christian High School, Coopersville High School, Fruitport High School, Grand Haven High School, Holland Christian High School, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center, Newaygo County Career Tech Center, Reeths-Puffer High School and Unity Christian High School.

The contest has evolved from strictly a drafting board contest to primarily a CAD contest with one sketching division. The event provides an opportunity for area high school students to demonstrate the skills they have learned and to encourage them to consider a career in a technical or manufacturing field.

After the students complete their work, their drawings are judged by a committee along with other volunteer professionals working in drafting related fields. Plaques and prizes will be handed out at an Awards Banquet in April.
