The Muskegon Community College Overbrook Players will again bring the work of William Shakespeare to life in their upcoming, hour-long production of “A Taste of the Tempest,” on Saturday at MCC’s Overbrook Theater and Sunday at the 1st Presbyterian Church, 508 Franklin St., Grand Haven.
Both performances are free and open to the public. Saturday’s production, being held in conjunction with Mayfest, begins at 1:30 p.m. in Overbrook Theater. The Sunday presentation, sponsored by the church’s Performing Arts Series, starts at 4 p.m.
All the roles will be played by current and graduating MCC students, many of whom experienced a week-long Intensive Acting Workshop with British professional director and acting coach Chris Hayes. The students were able to study the art of acting through use of Shakespeare’s sonnets and other dramatic material.
The full version of “The Tempest” has been cut, re-envisioned and directed by Tom Harryman, MCC Theater Department faculty member, who has assisted Hayes during the week-long intensives.
Cast members include Andrew Rocco Steward, Victoria Grant, Dustin Day, Colton Hall, Michael Pollock, Erin Madalyn Michelson, Jarod Peterson, Tre Perry, and stage managed by Michael Munson.
