International Education Week Events Nov. 17-20

MCC will celebrate International Education Week with a series of free events, including two panel discussions featuring international students and local Ebola experts, respectively, as well as a festive reunion of MCC German exchange students from the past two decades.

A joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, International Education Week promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the U.S.

MCC International Students Share Insights
On Monday, Nov. 17, MCC students from various nations will offer insights into their homelands during a panel discussion from 7-8 p.m. in the Blue and Gold Room. The participants hail from The Peoples Republic of China, Columbia, Senegal, Vietnam, Nepal and Sweden. The event will be moderated by Papa N’Jai, a native of Sierra Leone and a geography/anthropology instructor at MCC. Ethnic treats available at 6:45pm.

On Tuesday, Nov. 18, interested students can learn about the life-changing experience available with the MCC German Exchange Program. From 12:30-1 p.m. in the Blue and Gold Room, the program coordinator and former participants will answer questions about the application deadline, travel costs, travel documents and course credit. Cookies will be provided.

Ebola: What You Should Know
On Wednesday Nov. 19, local experts will discuss “Ebola: What You Should Know” beginning at 6 p.m. in Stevenson Center Room 1100. Dr. Andy Wible, instructor of philosophy and director of the Ethics Institute at MCC, will serve as the moderator. The panelists include: Dr. Bruce Olson, Infectious Disease Specialist and Medical Director at Mercy Health in Muskegon; Rachel McDermott, RN, Health System Educator at North Ottawa Community Health System; Papa N’Jai, Instructor of Anthropology and Geography at Muskegon Community College; and David Ogren, Paramedic and MCC student.

A German Party
On Thursday Nov. 20, Anyone involved with the German Exchange during the past 17 years is invited to join us for Ein deutsches Fest! (A German Party) from 5:30-7pm in Collegiate Hall. The reunion is a celebration of international study and cultural exchange. Join the stroll down memory lane with pictures, stories and hors d’oeuvres.
