The winners of the 2014 MCC Writing Contest, organized by the Muskegon Community College English Department and the Muskegon Writer’s Center, were announced on Dec. 9. A record 132 entries were submitted by 72 students.
The top three places in each category received awards of $100, $75 and $25, respectively. The first and second finalists in the essay, poetry, and fiction categories had their work submitted to the Michigan state-wide community college writing contest sponsored by Liberal Arts Network for Development (LAND), an organization committed to community college faculty and student excellence.
A top three statewide finish would earn a trip to the upcoming LAND Conference in Grand Rapids and inclusion in the LAND competition publication.
