The Jayhawk Baseball Team split with Bay Community College in their home opener losing the first game 11-9 before bouncing back for a 3-2 victory in game 2.
MCC collected 10 hits in the game. Gabe Schooltz (Comstock Park) singled, scoring 1 run in the 1st inning. Mason Brunworth (Mona Shores) doubled in the 4th inning scoring, 2 runs. Curtis Ellis (Norwell) was on the mound for the Jayhawks allowing 10 hits and 8 runs (6 earned) over 5 and 2/3 innings, striking our 2 and walking 1. Brock Thornton (Coldwater) led the Jayhawks offense with 3 hits in 4 at bats.
In game 2 Christian Hoffman (Heritage) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. Nate Lovell (Tri-County) singled in the bottom of the 1st inning, scoring 1 run. Brandon Butkus (Allendale) added a run in the 2nd inning. Dayton Thomas (Ravenna) singled, scoring 1 run in the 3rd inning. Brunworth went 2-3.
MCC is 1-1 in the Northern Conference and 2-9 overall. The season series will wrap up with another doubleheader on Friday, 3/29 with first pitch coming at 2:00 pm.
