The Jayhawk Baseball team won twice at home over Delta College on Friday; 6-3 in game 1 and 6-5 in walk off fashion in game 2.
In the opener Cody Matuz (Fruitport) picked up the win on the mound. He worked all 7 innings and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits with 14 strike outs. MCC picked up hits from 7 different players including a double from Mason Brunworth (Mona Shores) and a triple from Austin Fowler (Holton). Brandon Butkus (Allendale), Nate Lovell (Tri-County) and Stephen Weinert (Ludington) all finished with 2 RBI.
In game 2 Curtis Ellis (Norwell) got his first collegiate win on the mound. He pitched 7 innings and allowed 5 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits with 6 strike outs. Delta led 4-0 until the bottom of the 6th inning when MCC put up 5 runs to take the lead. Delta came back with a run in the top of the 7th to tie it up. MCC loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th and Carter Hughes (Zeeland West) delivered with a single for the walk off win. Lovell had the big blow in the bottom of the 6th with a 3 run home run. Hughes and Lovell both finished with 2 hits.
The series concludes tomorrow 4/20 with 2 games at Delta College starting at 1:00 pm.
