The Muskegon Community College Women’s Basketball team defeated the Bears from Mott Community College 55-49 in day two of the Mott Round Ball Classic.
The Jayhawks jumped out to a 10-4 lead right off the tip and held a 16-15 advantage at the end of the 1st quarter but then struggled to score in the 2nd quarter as they went into the locker room at the half down by 6, 30-24. After a spirited half time talk about playing to potential, the team picked up the defensive intensity and held the host team to 11 and 8 points respectively. “It was a great win today,” said Coach Jason Cooper. “The team fought through adversity and worked together as a team in the second half to pull out the win”. Arrionna Williams (Reeths-Puffer) was the top point getter for the Jayhawks with 15 points; she also added 6 steals and 4 assists. Remi Sponseller (Farwell) scored a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and McKena Wilson (Calvary Christian) added 10 points.Gaby Reeve (White Cloud) pulled down 7 rebounds and Maiya Hill (Grand Rapids Union) added 6 boards.
The Jayhawks (6-4) have a break from game play until after the New Year when they will travel to Port Huron to compete in a two-day tournament at St. Clair Community College on January 5-6.
