The Jayhawk Women Basketball team beat the JV team from Cornerstone University by a final score of 72-36.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to an 8-2 lead early, but MCC battled back, giving up only 2 additional points in the 1st quarter while score 20 for a 22-10 lead after one. Cornerstone settled back into the game in the 2nd quarter but MCC still outscored their opponents and they enjoyed a 40-23 half time lead. There was no let up in the 2nd half as the Jayhawk defense limited Cornerstone to 9 points in the 3rd quarter and 4 points in the 4th quarter. “It was a solid win for us tonight,” said Coach Jason Cooper. “I’m really excited to see the team push through adversity and fatigue; we are improving each game”. MCC got balanced scoring with McKena Wilson (Calvary Christian) leading the way with 14 points, 3 boards, 3 assists and 2 steals. Arrionna Williams (Reeths-Puffer) finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds, Maiya Hill (Union) had a double double of 12 points and a team high 13 rebounds and Remi Sponseller (Farwell) also had a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. MCC is now 3-1 on the season.
They will host St. Clair County Community College on Tuesday, 11/21 with tip off at 5:30 pm.
