The 31st Annual MCC CAD/Drafting Contest for high school and tech center students who reside in local counties will be held at the Muskegon Community College Sturrus Technology Center, 388 W. Clay, in downtown Muskegon on Friday, Dec. 7.

The students compete in four divisions: Beginning Sketching, Beginning 2D AutoCAD, 3D Solid Modeling, and 3D Solid Modeling/Assembly/Drawing.

“Each year, the competition provides an opportunity for area students to demonstrate the skills they have learned and to encourage them to consider a career in a technical or manufacturing field,” said Kathy Liefer, an instructor in MCC’s Applied Technology Department and coordinator of the event. “Beginning this year, we are excited to have the competition take place in our state-of-the-art Sturrus Technology Center.”

After the students complete their work, their drawings are judged by the committee along with other volunteer professionals working in drafting related fields. Students will spend time in the Lakeshore Fab Lab, tour the MCC applied technology facilities, eat lunch, and then attend the award ceremony at 1:15 p.m.

The contest is sponsored by MCC, The West Michigan Chapter of the American Foundry Society and many local businesses/educational institutions. This year, 75 students from six schools across Muskegon and Ottawa counties will participate.
