Fall 2018 Creative Writing Contest Winners Announced

The winners in Muskegon Community College’s Fall 2018 Creative Writing Contest, organized by the MCC English and Communications Department and the Muskegon Writers’ Series, have been selected. The top places in each category are:
ESSAY
First Place: Chloe Plescher  “Me,Too”
Second Place: Morgyn Weinert “The Intervention”
Third Place: Mara Johnson “Federal Law vs. Tribal Law”
Honorable Mentions:
Arieanna Johnson “Candlelight”
Emily Pfromm “Misconceptions about Miscarriages”

FICTION
First Place: Megan Delgado “In Them and Not in Me”
Second Place: Heather Schoenherr “Only the Beasts that Call it Home”
Third Place: Bianca Perry “Future Tragedies”
Honorable Mentions:

Angelina White “Pure Imagination”

POETRY
First Place: Mia McDermott “Skinny Dipping in Paradise”

The first place and second place finalists in the essay, fiction and poetry categories will have their work automatically submitted to the Michigan state-wide community college writing contest sponsored by LAND (Liberal Arts Network for Development), an organization committed to community college faculty and student excellence. Those chosen among the top three in each statewide category will receive their awards at the LAND conference on Feb. 6-8 in Ann Arbor and will have their works appear in the LAND publication.
