The Community Foundation for Muskegon County (CFFMC) has announced that its Foundation Scholarship Program for Muskegon, Oceana, Mason and Manistee counties is currently accepting applications for the 2014-15 academic year. The CFFMC administers more than 275 scholarship funds, including 13 earmarked for Muskegon Community College students, as well as hundreds of awards for graduating high school seniors and current college students.
Applications are available to be submitted electronically at the Community Foundation website: www.cffmc.org. The online application deadline is March 1, 2014. MCC students who complete the application will be considered for all of the CFFMC scholarships.
The Community Foundation does not make awards solely on the basis of need. Academic achievement, community involvement, extracurricular activities and financial need are all taken into consideration. The 13 MCC scholarships include the inaugural FMCC General Scholarship Fund, funded through the college’s Annual Jayhawk Scramble and individual donations. The first-ever recipients for this award will be selected in Spring 2014.
A brief description of all the CFFMC scholarships solely for MCC students follows:
Foundation for Muskegon Community College General Scholarship
- Residents of Muskegon, Ottawa, or Newaygo Counties registered full-time (12 credit hours or more) at MCC
- Primary criteria shall be financial need
- Not based on academic performance; special consideration given to those who would benefit the most from a second chance; is a non-traditional student; are from an alternative school; or facing unusual hardships or circumstances
Muskegon Community College Archie McCrea Scholarship
- For graduates of MCC who are transferring to a four-year college, pursuing a degree in journalism
- 2.5 or above GPA
- Must demonstrate financial need
Muskegon Community College August VanEerden Scholarship
- For graduates of Muskegon High School
- For students who are pursuing a degree in education
- 2.7 or above GPA
- Must demonstrate financial need
Muskegon Community College F. Charles Raap Public Service Scholarship
- For a Muskegon County resident
- Must demonstrate commitment to public service
- 2.5 or above GPA
- Must demonstrate financial need
Muskegon Community College Herman and Marjorie Dekker Scholarship
- For a graduate of Muskegon High School or Western Michigan Christian High School
- For a student majoring in fine arts, with preference given to drawing
- Must demonstrate academic/artistic achievement as determined by the college
- Must demonstrate financial need
Muskegon Community College Judith Brooky-Green Scholarship
- For MCC dance students who wish to attend special workshops, summer camps or internships
- For MCC graduates seeking to continue their dance education
- Must demonstrate financial need
Muskegon Community College Kyvig Scholarship
- For a Muskegon County resident
- 3.0 or above GPA
- Must demonstrate financial need
Muskegon Community College MHS Class of ’46 Scholarship
- For graduates of Muskegon High School who are attending MCC or graduates of MCC who are transferring to a four-year college
- 3.5 or above GPA
- Must demonstrate financial need
Muskegon Community College Muskegon District Nurses Scholarship
- MCC student enrolled in a full-time Nursing Program
- 3.5 or above GPA
Muskegon Community College Richard Kraft/Suzanne Kraft Mateer Scholarship
- For high school graduating seniors of Muskegon, Ottawa, Oceana and Newaygo Counties
- 3.5 or above GPA
- Minimum ACT score of 27
Muskegon Community College Samuel L. Westerman Scholarship
- For current sophomore students working on completion of an associate’s degree who are transferring to a baccalaureate degree-granting institution
- Priority given to a student from a farm or rural area and/or who is studying nursing
- Must demonstrate financial need
- 3.0 or above GPA
Muskegon Community College William H. Young Memorial Scholarship
- For a high school graduating senior or current college student
- For a resident of West Michigan, with preference given to a resident of Muskegon or Ottawa County
- 3.0 or above GPA
- Must be seeking an associate’s degree
- Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in a social services field

Muskegon Community College William & Velva Riggs Scholarship
- For a high school graduating senior or current college student
- For a resident of West Michigan, with preference given to a resident of Bridgeton Township, within Holton High School District
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must be a regular degree-seeking student
- Must demonstrate a GPA of 3.0 or higher
