College Celebrates MLK Day of Service with Volunteerism

While Muskegon Community College will be closed on Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, MCC students and employees are encouraged to record a video of their volunteer efforts on this year’s MLK Jr. Day of Service and to submit it for a chance to win a $100 VISA gift card.

“MCC sponsors great events each year for MLK Day, but I’m excited that this year the College is promoting greater volunteerism in the name of Dr. King,” noted Eli Fox. “I imagine he’d be proud for his life and vision to be honored in such a way.”

Fox and Jerry Wallace, both enrollment representatives at MCC, are coordinating the competition which hopes to capture the volunteer spirit associated with the MLK Day of Service on Jan. 21.

Open to MCC students and employees, participants must submit a 1-3-minute video showing them as they volunteer between Jan. 12-21, 2013. On the video, the entrants must describe what they are doing and how it’s impacting them. If the volunteers are wearing MCC apparel, they will increase their opportunity to win.

Those interested in participating may click on the video to the right for more information.

Individual and group service projects will be accepted. If volunteering with a group, each person present and volunteering will be entered into prize drawing individually, but only if visible in the video. Each volunteer must be tagged in the Facebook video for his or her name to be entered. The promotion is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by or associated with Facebook.

All entries must be uploaded to the MCC Facebook page by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The prize drawing will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 23, during the Wild Wacky Wednesday event in Gerber Lounge. Contestants need not be present to win. For additional information, contact Jerry Wallace at jerry.wallace@muskegoncc.edu.
